İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University composed of 10 faculties, 3 institutes, and 1 school of foreign language was established on the date of 21.07.2010. The university is an establishment with a private budget containing scientific autonomy and as a public legal entity.
Founded as the fourth state university in İzmir, İKCU was named after the 17th-century Ottoman scientist Kâtip Celebi. İKCU admitted the first students in the academic year of 2011-2012. Now, the university has 13 faculties, 3 institutes, 1 school of foreign language, 1 vocational high school, 21 application, and research centers, and 7 coordinatorships. İKCU carries out the activities on two different campuses. Besides the Çiğli central campus, there is a central campus at Aydınlıkevler, Çiğli.
