Offshore Wind Blows Fast in İzmir

İzmir got off to a fast start in 2024 regarding offshore wind energy.

Primarily in January, “Offshore Wind Energy Roadmap and Industry Inventory” Reports promotion event was held in İzmir, the capital of clean energy and clean technologies, with the participation of İzmir Governor Dr. Süleyman ElbaN and industry representatives.

The “Offshore Wind Energy Turkey Roadmap” Report, in which Turkey’s offshore wind energy potential is analyzed and the road map to be followed for the development of this field is stated, was shared with the sector. Moreover, the “Offshore Wind Energy Sector Inventory” Report, which involves all stakeholders of offshore wind energy in Türkiye, was also presented.

Then in February, the “Offshore Wind Energy Tenders: Global Trends and Recommendations for Türkiye” report, prepared in cooperation with the Turkish Wind Energy Association (TÜREB) and SHURA Energy Transition Center, was launched in an event hosted by Nordex Türkiye Training Center in İzmir.

The report aims to contribute to the design of an effective tender system for the offshore wind energy Renewable Energy Resource Areas (YEKA) mechanism in Türkiye and draws on international best practices.

In the panel held after the report presentation, in which WindEurope – Chief Policy Officer Pierre TARDIEU participated online, the potential of our country in the field of offshore wind energy and the work done for the development of this field were evaluated.
