17 Oct 2020 IMPORTANT STEP FROM THE AEGEAN FREE ZONE (ESBAŞ) IN GREEN TRANSFORMATION OF INVESTMENT ZONES IN İZMİR
İzmir’s investment zones continue to contribute to the efforts towards İzmir’s green growth targets. Aegean Free Zone (ESBAŞ), which aims zero carbon emission, received a green electricity certificate.
Recognized for its environmental investments, ESBAŞ takes the first step for eliminating the carbon footprint due to electricity consumption by turning towards renewable energy. Having initially signed a contract with Borusan EnBW for obtaining 33% of its annual electricity consumption from renewable resources, ESBAŞ received the I-REC Green Electricity Certification as proof that the consumed electricity comes from renewable resources. With this agreement, ESBAŞ has fully eliminated its carbon footprint due to electricity consumption. ESBAŞ aims to procure all of its projected electricity consumption for 2021, which is 3.2 million kWh per year, from renewable plants.
